The Academic Affairs area at Indian River State College includes the instructional programs and educational services that form the core of the Associate in Arts Degree and constitute an important part of the Bachelor's Degree. The Academic Affairs area is the scholastic heart of the College, because it includes the disciplines and resources that are integral to a broad liberal arts education.

Academic Affairs is one of five major areas of Indian River State College under the auspices of a Vice President (the others are Applied Science & Technology, Instructional Services, Student Affairs, and Administration & Finance). Academic Affairs is itself divided into five divisions: Arts & Sciences, Communications & Social Sciences, Developmental Education, Learning Resources, and Minority Affairs.

The Division of Arts & Sciences includes the Departments of Biological Sciences, Fine Arts, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

The Division of Communications & Social Sciences includes the Departments of Communications & Education, English & Modern Languages, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The Division of Developmental Education includes Adult Education, Adjunct Faculty, Transitional Studies, Testing & Assessment, and Learning Support Programs.

The Division of Learning Resources includes Library Services, Electronic Access to Information, and the Library Technical Assistant Program.

The Division of Minority Affairs includes the College Reach Out Program, Student Support Services, Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Minority Community Relations.
