Randy Gibson began teaching at IRSC in 1983 as an adjunct instructor, teaching the course which is now known as CIS 1000 Introduction to Information Technology.
He started studying computers while earning his B. S. Degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the University of Florida. He continued studying computers while earning a Masters Degree in Theatre Engineering at Yale University and supporting himself as a technical design consultant and trainer.
During his first year in the classroom at IRSC, he found a professional satisfaction that motivated him to join the faculty fulltime and has kept him with the college ever since.
He served as department chair from January of 2007 to May of 2008, but found that he preferred giving his full attention to teaching.
During his tenure, Randy has taught on every campus in the college’s four county service area, covering courses related to computer applications, programming and Internet services. He taught the college’s first courses about the Internet and began writing web sites before the college had one.
Outside the classroom, Randy’s personal interests include antiques, visual and performing arts, technology, and travel. Thanks partly to IRSC’s travel abroad programs, he has now visited every continent except Antarctica (and he hopes to visit there soon).
